What do candidates really want from an employer?

Beyond pay, people look for a sense of purpose (does my work matter?), impact (can I make a difference?) and belonging (will I fit and be valued?). Answering these honestly is more powerful than generic benefits.

Beyond fair pay, people are usually weighing three deeper questions: purpose, meaning does the work matter and align with what I care about; impact, meaning can I make a difference and grow; and belonging, meaning will I fit in, be respected and be valued for who I am. Answering these honestly and specifically is far more persuasive than a generic benefits list, because benefits are easily matched by competitors while a genuine sense of meaning and belonging is not. Lead with them because they drive both the decision to join and the decision to stay. The pitfall is assuming money alone decides; pay gets you shortlisted, but these deeper needs usually determine the choice.
